My Garden

I have to admit something. It's probably going to be a shock to all you folks on the east coast who knew my busy life. Well... here it goes... I have become a huge plant freak. I'm talking pruning, I'm talking watering, weeding, potting, all that jazz.

Growing up,  I spent my summers playing out doors in rural Ohio. Our family would jump in the car and head down the street to visit my Grandparents. My favorite memory of my Grandparents were all of  our walks around their property. I sat atop my Grandfather's shoulders and listened as he pointed out every plant and tree around their home. Over the years their garden grew and grew in size just as I did.  Still, we walked and talked through the garden stepping on the stone paths as Grandma would tell us about her flowers. My favorites were always the sky scraper sunflowers. After their passing, I made it a tradition that every spring I would plant sunflowers in honor of them. Since we are in Hawaii, I intend to keep them growing all year round!
Here's my first round of sunflowers.

Here are the newbies I'm growing.

Okay back on track with my whole garden. I kind of hoarded the gardening responsibilities from Brady but he doesn't care one bit. When his Mom visited last year, she spread her green thumb all over the patio. I've had the pleasure of keeping them thriving. Along with the existing plants, I have added tons more. So many more that I've had to cut myself off!

I wanted to do our front flower beds because they were seriously ugly. The lack of sunlight on that part of the house killed everything in the flower beds. I had my strong handy guy help me take out some plants. He took out all but two out so I basically had a clean pallet. Here are the before photos. (Our Hawaiian Pine has now split into 4 Hawaiian Pines and grown a foot since I took this photo in April.)

Here is how it turned out.

This plant in the middle was my starter and split into all of those plants that I put in the flower beds.

If you take a walk around our patio here are all of the plants you'd see.

(This guy is one of three.)

(Sweet pea and tomato starters)

(The two plants on the right grew out of the second plant. No clue how that happened but I just recently had to divide them into two.)

(Brady's rose bushes)

(Another one of Brady's rose bushes)
(Full bloom photo from last month.)

And finally a massive plumeria tree that I take no credit for.
I do take credit for the raking I do though. Obviously, I haven't done it in a few days!

And that's my latest addiction. (Excluding my tomato plants that the birds keep eating.) My green thumb is getting pretty amazing in this paradise.

Until next time,

Erin
