Fabric Banner

Aloha! As promised, here is the fabric banner tutorial. I made this as one of the decorations for Kristen's upcoming shower. It's super duper easy and super duper adorable, if I don't say so myself. I bought all of this fabric at the local thrift store for like 15 bucks. The brown textured fabric is actually a panel of curtains that I couldn't resist buying. I scored the tulle and rope at the local craft store that went out of business. I paid about a buck a piece. This whole project was roughly $20 dollars to make and I still have a ton of excess fabric.

1. Here is what I started with minus a pair of sharp scissors.

2. This off white fabric was actually a pillowcase. It was super easy to rip so I made slits down the side and ripped the whole way down.

3. All of the other fabrics were too thick to rip so I ended up cutting them. Holy hand workout. I cut the fabric the same length but slightly different widths to add more character.

I had no idea how many strips of each color to cut or use. I cut a bunch.

4. I hung a string using push pins on an open wall. I folded each strip in half and draped it over the string. Then I pulled the ends through the top loop that I created by draping it over the string. Remember to stay consistent. If you start by draping it over the string at the top, don't mix it up and start draping from behind and bringing it towards you. I hope that makes sense and I explained it correctly!

5. I laid my strips out and started tying them by the colors that felt right together. I even added the tulle randomly and attached them the same way as I did the fabric.

6. Almost done, hang in there.

7. All finished!

I had so much excess fabric strips that I stuffed this banner and had enough to create a smaller one. I intend to use these over the present table and the smaller one over the cake table. I guess all that cutting was a perfect amount after all! I absolutely love all of the textures. It really doesn't matter what kind of fabric you are using. It all ties together once it's hanging on the same string.

Make sure that if you use this tutorial to send me your finished products! Mahalo for reading and I'll see you all in 11 days!
